Truth be told, I love it here.
Then you might want to consider changing your username....................uh, most people would probably consider it a perjorative...........lol, kinda like Klantee or Detroitistan.

What could possibly be pejorative in relation to Kentucky?

If you're a local IEer (I assume you're not), you'd know Fontucky is what Fontana has been called forever, to describe the more countrified folks that resided there, and the character of the area back in the day (Fontana has, and had larger than average lots, farm animals, horses, etc).

Remember: Spokompton.

No, that is why I was making the point.............most people would assume a negative with such a Hee-Haw-type moniker.

And yes, I think I will be dropping the Spokompton title, this is a really nice city. I will just use it when it is obviously in jest.

Yep, that is right on.

The horror stories I read about Spokane on this site before moving here.....downright awful.

Spokane is probably the nicest city I have ever lived in.......the sun is out almost as much as it was in San Diego.........and this place is not filled with Illegal Aliens.

I totally agree with the bold, but IMO you put waaaaaaaaay too much em-PHA-sis on the i.i. thing.

IMO, somebody could have a similar Spokanesque awakening/feeling about Bakersfield, depending on where they'd been. I've always had generally good experiences in Bakersfield as well, it kinda feels "real"/normal there.

Well, it usually comes down to the fact that if people dislike a place, they will post a bunch of exaggerated nonsense on these boards. I have learned to see through this fact.

I have moved so much, I try to see the good and bad in every place I have lived. I don't want to give people some "science fiction" reality of the place I am talking about, I try to be balanced.

I was considering Bakersfield...........dealbreaker was the heat.....just too long and broiling summers.................I have been through that in Tucson...........no thanks.

Hubby got a job here in Oklahoma. More money which surprised us, better vacation and lower cost of living! We're quite pleased but shocked that this job was sitting right under our nose!

Just goes to show that you should always pull up that rug and not assume there isn't anything under it

But I do thank the folks of California and others who live out there for all the help. I would not have known a thing about Bakersfield if we hadn't gone out there. Can't promise to pick it as a vacation destination though

Yes

I really did appreciate the help, even the negative responses because no place is perfect...unless you're living in the Ozarks
