I have the option of taking a new very well paying job in Tracy Ca. I am a single woman who loves music and the outdoors. I live in Ohio right now but I am from the bay area and want to come back! The thought of living in the SJ valley doesnt appeal to me though....

Are there some decent towns around tracy (~60 mins commute) that could be fun for a single woman in her 40's? Woudl love to get in a band again too. Live music is a plus. and a jr college or univ close would be nice as my son may want to go to school out there. (hes 18)

I was actually thinking about berkeley or SFO as my commute would be the reverse of most.

I will probably rent at first to check the area out and buy a year later ( although I could buy too)

I was also thinking I love the mtns, like angels canp.... or maybe discovery bay .. OOo my whats a girl to do!?

ANy thoughts would be wonderful!!

California apartments and apartment reviews - ApartmentRatings.com

Use the link above to find a decent apartment, if you go that route. Be careful of reviews that seem too good to be true and you'll glean the right info for making a choice.
Traffic sucks, so why would you want to put yourself through that. If not living in Tracy, Livermore is a nice town, but it's 20 miles away. I'd rather keep my commute short.

Why in the hell would you BUY something in a place you've never been? OR commute up to an hour? Crazy!!! You rent first near your job then figure out where you like to be. It's not tricky. Even people who live here have specific reasons why they would or wouldn't buy property in a specific city/town/neighborhood. You can't know that stuff from afar.

Agreed, Berkley is pretty far even with no traffic. I wouldn't expect there to smooth sailing all the way to work during rush there. The Bay area has a lot of ppl and traffic, bottom line. Throw in an accident or construction and you will sit in traffic for hours.

Why not just start closer then get to know your surrounds and preferences? With millions of ppl in the Bay area there are many, many options as well as subjective preferences.

30 mins away will get you to livermore/pleasanton/dublin. Your best bet will probably be in that area, its actually quite nice. Berkeley/Oakland/San Francisco are all way too far and there is still traffic going the opposite way. The gas and time you're going to spend coming from The Bay or Angel's Camp is gonna be painful. Its better to stay closer.
