Winter? I know winter. Three winters in Minnesota and three on the 38th Parallel, not to mention various other places...

The nice thing about winter is that you can always dress warmly enough to fend off the cold. Compare that to summer when leaving off enough clothes to try to stay cool will get you arrested, and you'll still be hot and sticky.

Yeah, taxes. But ya gotta admit, there are still Currier and Ives scenes there even if life isn't a la Norman Rockwell any longer, if it ever really was.

For perspective, the County of San Diego and the State of Connecticut are roughly equivalent in size and population. That leaves 57 more counties ranging in population from 1000 (Alpine) to 10 million (Los Angeles).

This whole hare-brained scheme needs a lot more preparation before it moves from hare-brained to merely foolhardy, to questionable, to plausible.

On the plus side, I disagree with one of the previous posters. If you end up driving out here, and don't really have that much stuff, it won't cost thousands of dollars to move. It might be doable for $1000 and that includes gas, hotels, and food. Just cram all of your stuff into your car. If it doesn't fit, then it must not be something you need.

Hi Curmudgeon,

In the winter I can't ever get warm enough, I'm freezing from Oct-Apr. Yet, in the summer, its so humid, I'm miserable too. I'm a wimp when it comes to the weather

Yes, there are some very nice places in this state, but I think Currier & Ives is a thing of the past. I don't know if it's made national headlines, but a few years ago in a nearby town (which is someone pretentious) a Doctor's wife & two daughters were murdered. The second offender was just found guilty.

If there was a place with perfect weather, low crime, low COL & great jobs, everyone would be flocking to that state. If I ever find it, I'll meet you there

Alas, it happened and it did make the national news. Not the CT of my childhood memories but then, is anything anymore? I think, at my age, I'm entitled to stick with those glimpses and recalls of better times, and I shall.

Dunno 'bout perfect weather, whatever that is, and don't care 'bout no jobs but found the low crime an' and COL. Two outta four ain't bad in there here days.

Find out from your employer which Target they might be able to transfer you to. You can live in some areas of CA without a car but it won't be easy. There are CNA jobs here but you'd probably have to get recertified for this state. Good luck.
