Utopia is hard to find.. one can insulate one's self from the world with money..I doubt there is a utopia

I do wonder about places that put an emphasis on family.. religion.. service to others... whether they exist and whether these attributes would change my perceptions.. or in the case my reality

When I first moved to Redding I loved it and felt safe here.. now ab109.. homeless.. flocks of dopers coming to grow.. all the lowlifes that come with them.. all have changed our area exponentially in just several years... rarely did we have a pursuit,, now we have one every day,, rarely were there OIS shootings,, we've been having one a month.. beginning to feel like where I came from.. I do think I see it from a different vantage point than most people

My wife and I have concluded there is no utopia in the US anymore.. so we will look for a place with less density,, fewer people gnerally means fewer services ..less government.. lower taxes..

Kalifornia is about too many people vying for too few resources,,, and half of us paying for the other half of sick lame and lazy.. change that and utopia just might follow

You're writing off the entire country? Interesting.

It's called "Cop Vision". They know that everything really sucks. What all other people are enjoying is an illusion.

I said utopia.. I didnt say reality...

There are certainly places substantially better in many aspects than others by personal preferrence

Im burned out on California. its luster is gone for me... I will have fond memories...

If I was rich enough Id live on a 100 acres in nothern Santa Barbara...

But.. since Im one of the 50 percenters paying for the lowlifes sucking off the worker bees... that lifestyle isnt happening

So..I will continue to look for a more conservative place. much less nanny state stuff, less services, less government, more religion and family values.. perhaps midewest.. who knows

Redding used to be that way.. not anymore

Nope. You're not in Kansas anymore, Toto. But you could be! Just take a deep toke, close your eyes tight, click your heels together three times, and imagine Auntie Em handing you a big slice of hot apple pie. Mmmmmm pie! Just the thought kinda gives you the munchies don't it now!? You could have all that. In Kansas. It will make you happy.

Tulemutt, you're killing me. And you made me want something sweet! Probably wouldn't go well with my red wine, though...

NotMeOfficer, if you are a policeman and you see all the ugly stuff, I completely understand where you are coming from. I know there is ugly stuff in Redding, but I have the option of not being around it. I see a few homeless here and there - which is definitely better downtown now that it's gotten hot, or if you all are chasing them out of downtown, thank you!

But, I'll see them with signs at the safeway, or hanging around the park by the library. I go to the library, but I won't hang out in that park.

But, my point is that unless you are a cop or someone for some reason frequenting where the creepy people are, it's easy to avoid them. So, I see Redding so differently.

This evening I went on a free kayak trip organized by the library at Whiskey Town Lake. I haven't had so much relaxing fun in years! It was beautiful and peaceful, and there was no traffic or crowds getting there and coming home. I am in love with Whiskey Town Lake! And it's so close to town.

I'm sorry you've had to see the seedy underbelly on a regular basis, and that it has made you sour on the town. I don't like living downtown, and I hope to remedy that in the next year or so. But, otherwise, I find Redding beautiful and the people friendly and down to earth as a rule.

But, sometimes a person just needs a complete change. I hope you find somewhere you love.

BTW, I had a mid-life crisis and moved to Mexico for a year, with the idea of retiring there. I can tell you first hand that moving to another country is not the answer. At least not Mexico. There are sooooo many options right here in the US, where things really do run much better than most other places.

Thank the USCG aux for escorting those awesome moonlight serenades on the lake. A positive group whom I have worked with for years

Dopers wouldn't go to such a positive event... which is why its awesome

My wife... the most conscious and gentle person I know feels the need to be carry protection all the time here now.... her job is located by the river where hordes of sick...lame..kzy..and crooked live among or around us. We cannot fix all the social ills but we absolutely should protect the innocent

Where are all the dope growers donating to the good news rescue mission ... the silence is deafening

Its the regular person who is experiencing a seed change living here now... I don't blame it all on the doper element ... ab109 using redding as a dumping ground for prisoners has certainly affected our city

Schedule a ride a long with RPD and see redding reality

Officer, every life and experience is reality. Not just yours.

Ignorance is bliss, and I choose to remain that way. Which is why I'd never make it as a police officer, a social worker, a doctor, nurse, etc. I keep my blinders firmly on my head about the ugly side of life and avoid it whenever possible.

And avoiding it is entirely possible in Redding. Well, other than people trying to bum change off of me.

I have a new technique for people who ask me for change because they need bus money or food money or whatever. I start talking their heads off about all of my bills and oh, how I wished I had some spare change, but you would not believe how much is costs to pay my electric bill and my rent and put gas in my car, let alone dog food......by now they are running away from me LOL!

But, this is rare in my life, even downtown.

And I choose not to watch the news and rarely read the paper anymore. I find the news depressing and stressful, and the world runs just fine without my help. I will do my research when it's time to vote, but otherwise, I live in blissful ignorance by choice.

Thats not ignorance. That's focusing on what's meaningful to you, rather than what you can't change.
