Hi everyone,
It is time for me to renew my, already expired, driver's license. I have astigmatism in one of my eyes and need glasses in order to pass the vision exam. I went to an ophthalmologist to have my eyes checked and get new glasses. The problem is, my glasses will be ready in 7-10 days. I plan to spend New Year's in Vegas, and I need my new license on time. I was planning to use my old glasses at the DMV in order to get my license in the next couple of days, but with the old glasses, I still don't have perfect vision on my eye. At the doctors office, I wore my old glasses to "test" my eye on the eye exam chart, and missed 1 or 2 letters on that row (the same row on the chart DMV will want me to read). My question is, how many numbers are you allowed to miss in order to pass the vision exam? In case I do fail the test, can I retake it within a week or so with my new glasses or will I have to wait for a longer period of time? How many retakes do I get? I see perfectly fine with my other eye.

If I get a note from my doctor saying that I had my eyes checked, and glasses were prescribed, is there a way to have the exam voided?

I also have to pass the writting test, which is 12 questions or so. Does anyone know what kind of questions these are? I just want to refresh my memory..

Thanks a lot, and happy holidays!

I don't know about the whole eye exam issue.
I'd just go in with your old glasses, take the test and see how it goes.
Here's a link to the ca dmv web-site with some sample questions.

The last time I had to do the eye test, they told me to take off my glasses. I flunked the test, so they told me I'd need to wear my glasses while driving. That was it.
