Hi, I'll be moving to Modesto soon to work at Gallo Winery and am worried about the crime rate/safety.

I won't have a car and will need to either bike/bus to work for awhile. I read that areas east of the 99 aren't the safest, so I was wondering if it would also be dangerous to bike/bus every day.

Also, any suggestions on what areas would be safest to live in considering I'll need to bike/bus on my commute?

Thank you for your help!

Why would you accept a job and then wonder whether it is safe to live in? I would have thought that research would have been done before you planned to move?

This forum and California statistical sites have a wealth of information. Just do a little digging.
This is one of my favorites.

I'm already aware that west Modesto isn't the safest neighborhood and I've already read about the crime rates in that area of town.

What I'm interested in is how safe the public transportation is when I'm in that area. Most of what I've read has mentioned high car theft rates and a high number of gangs/drug use. Is anybody from the area who might be able to give me a first-hand account?
