Goodnight now and than you for wroting me.

Yep, he is fired up today. He does not like it when he can't trample on people with his BS. The interesting thing is he is not a California resident.

So many here will try and demonize when someone dares to tell the truth and point out the obvious. They want to shield and sugarcoat the radical progressive agenda in California as if they are going to personally benefit from it. Actually some probably do if they are part of the corrupt system like a public union worker or on a public assistance program ... but this is only a temporary benefit and boils down to selling your soul to the devil. In the end they will be just another controlled worker to support the socialist system they helped put in place. At that point you can't go back.

Well, Don. I need to thank you and correct you. The thanks is for telling me where my soul is. I knew I was missing something and that must be it. It's comforting to now know where I can find it. That will save me a lot of fruitless searching.

Now the correction. Since I was a fairly senior manager I didn't belong to public employees unions but there are those who will claim I benefitted from them nonetheless. While not really accurate, for the sake of avoiding needless rhetoric and argument, let's say that I did. But what I need to correct is your statement that whatever benefits derived from so base an association are merely temporary. It's quite the contrary, in fact.

In return for my soul having migrated to the nether regions I have a lifetime, defined benefit pension, lifetime medical and prescription benefits for which I pay no premiums whatsoever and now that I'm on Medicare as well, the state - that's you, Don - even reimburses me for my Part B premium the feds take from my Social Security check each month. To make matters even worse, my wife's soul has joined mine after also having completed its journey on the River Styx and she is similarly situated in terms of those corrupt benefits.

Oh, the agony!

regarding commies. There are no Communist states, as anyone actually familiar with Communism would know.

North Korea is a totalitarian theocratic monarchy,

China is a capitalist state governed by a totalitarian bureaucracy (rising from a trashed and destroyed economy in 1970 to the world's second ranked economic power in 40 years is a profound statement on the efficiency of a well run totalitarian bureaucracy).

Cuba is a totalitarian bureaucracy.

Note the repetition of the words totalitarian bureacracy. That is what the states that the McCarthyites call Communist actually are.

As far as Socialist, every modern industrial nation is socialist to one degree or another. Anyone who runs around screaming "the sky is falling because of socialism" really needs to get out more.

The US ranks ninth in the world in economic freedom. Every country with more economic freedom is Socialist.

In the combined categories of Political Rights
Civil Liberties
Press Freedom
Rule of Law
Corruption
Human Rights
Methodology
The US ranks 15th, all countries doing better are socialist.

In the ranking of nations on the general happiness and contentment of its citizens, the US does not make the top 10, all countries beating it are Socialist.

Buddha was an interesting guy, he nailed down the causes of unhappiness, and he gave tools to cure that. It is impossible for me, for instance to think that vainglorious bragging is the sign of a happy person. Tis true, that as a humble mulero, I may be missing something. I also find it impossible to understand why some people prefer their beliefs to facts. Tis true, as a life long seeker of facts, I may be missing something. Buddha had some comments on both states.

Quote:
PRIDE

Pride is defined as an exaggerated positive evaluation of oneself, often based on a devaluation of others. It results in a kind of attachment to oneself and aversion to others.

TRANSFORM: inferiority feelings, fears for attack create a shield, leading to isolation
WITH: observation, analysis, equanimity, courage and tong-len.
ASK: Who caused my: education, intelligence, beautiful body, money? Does someone with self-confidence need to be proud?
INTO: self-confidence, honesty with yourself & others, fearlessness, gratitude, friendship, equanimity.

"...to have greater self-awareness or understanding means to have a better grasp of reality. Now, the opposite of reality is to project onto yourself qualities that are not there, ascribe to yourself characteristics in contrast to what is actually the case. For example, when you have a distorted view of yourself, such as through excessive pride or arrogance, because of these states of mind, you have an exaggerated sense of your qualities and personal abilities. Your view of your own abilities goes far beyond your actual abilities. On the other hand, when you have low self-esteem, then you underestimate your actual qualities and abilities. You belittle yourself, you put yourself down. This leads to a complete loss of faith in yourself. So excess--both in terms of exaggeration and devaluation--are equally destructive. lt is by addressing these obstacles and by constantly examining your personal character, qualities, and abilities, that you can learn to have greater self-understanding. This is the way to become more self-aware."
From "The Art of Happiness at Work" by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Howard C. Cutler, M.D.

IGNORANCE

Ignorance is not only not knowing, but also includes not wanting to know. In Buddhism, the deeper level of ignorance refers to a lack of wisdom or insight into the nature of reality.

Ignorance, or not having real wisdom, lies at the basis of all our problems, upto the fact that we are not fully enlightened Buddhas, who only experience bliss and no suffering or frustration. Due to our ignorance, we do negative actions and thus create misery in our future (see karma). According to Buddhism, all our negative (unhelpful) emotions have their origin in misunderstanding in general and not realising the wisdom of emptiness. The road to a full realisation of this wisdom is usually very long, and can easily take many life-times, but a jouney needs to begin with a first step....

TRANSFORM: avoiding responsibility for one's own life, lack of self-confidence, negative mind-patterns and behavior
WITH: study, attending teachings, critical analysis, reflection, meditation
INTO: wisdom, taking responsibility, feeling confident, thinking and acting positively for ourselves and others

We have much in common, we both passed through the crucible of the Vietnam War.

We both live in rural areas with rural proclivities.
We both read material that gives us understanding of world history and world issues, we don't wait for some talking head on the radio to tell us what to think.
We both understand that you ain't getting out of this life alive, you may as well enjoy your stay here.

Pension benefits "for life" is only valid as long as the entity paying the pension benefits stays intact and fully funded throughout the life of its beneficiaries. California state pensions are already identified as unsustainable. In bankruptcy, pension benefits can be changed and or eliminated. This has already started to happen in companies and municipalities. When a state's economy collapses we don't know yet what will happen, but we do know California is not the only state facing economic collapse. The federal government can't step in a pay everyone's public pension benefits from every state. The pensions benefits would not be at the top of the list of critical things a state needs to be funded. The federal government is facing its own financial threats. Obama is getting ready to ask for yet another 1.2 trillion increase in the debt ceiling and this was just after he increased it a few months ago. The writing is on the wall now. When the USA economy collapses then all bets are off. This is one of the reason's why I'm taking a lump sum payout ... and soon!
