Santa Maria today: high 77 / low 49
Kissimmee, Florida today: high 87 / low 75 / thunderstorms / 80% precipitation

The weather dot com forecasts continue similarly for the next 15 days.
Absolute humidity, i.e. the dew point, is much higher in Florida than it is in Santa Maria.

01-08-2021 Santa Maria is in the middle of a severe housing shortage right now and rents are inflated as a result. As of January 2021, $1600 and upwards might get you a 1 bedroom apartment. If you are luckier still, $2200 a month will get you a small, 50 plus year old 3 bedroom home in a high crime area. 2500 and up will land you in a more desirable area. Median home price is $470,000 this is very high considering the median salary is low at only $50,753. I would advise to stay away unless you already have someplace lined up.

Well, to be fair, a place's character can change over ...14 years? But I'd like to see an update from another source, just for objectivity's sake. We do get inquiries about Santa Maria, still.

I remember it being a dump but was surprised at how much nicer it has gotten. I got a good "feel" from the people. very relaxed atmosphere. The weather was awesome, very fresh air, could faintly smell the ocean in it.

As they say, Santa Maria is "on the up."
Santa Maria is growing, but not growing into what locals want.

It’s a farming town turned to big suburb. The new jail is opening in a couple weeks and crime has gone down. It’s basically Oxnard 2.

Remote workers, commuters to SLO and SB and VAFB, and young Bay Area families coming to raise a family somewhere affordable. All of this has driven up the cost of housing.

I grew up in the area. Santa Maria has become a twin of Salinas. Santa Maria has no “soul”. People in Santa Maria go up to San Luis Obispo county to enjoy life. SM has crappy weather, windy, dusty, flat, nice pesticides drifting over the city from the farms to the west. Beautiful graffiti everywhere, lots of trash and litter. Be careful driving, because most of the time, if a driver hits you, they run. Santa Maria is know locally as “what is the stabbing or shooting of the day.” Also, there are parts of the city that are dangerous to be at night. That speaks volumes.
