Would like to retire in Atascadero,CA? Can you tell me where the best place to go for reasonable rent for single woman (within a few miles from the beach)?

Atascadero is not near the beach, it is a nice town though. You need to visit and wander around, see what you like.

Atascadero is a ways from the beach, I'd say about 15 miles of hills. It seems you would either have to rent in Atascadero, and be farther from the beach, or be closer to the beach in Los Osos.

Atascadero really isn't a retirement community, and it's not near the beach. I would suggest Cambria, It is more of a retirement community and it is near the beach.

As everyone has said, Atascadero is not near the beach. Its about a 20 minute drive down Hwy 41. If you want to live in a beach town, may you would want to live in Morro Bay (a bit foggy).

Atascadero's newspapers have always said that sooner or later it will only be retirees. I don't know if that will ever happen. A lot of younger couples are moving out of Atascadero. There's not a lot of work here. I could see people retiring here. Atascadero does not have a lot of stuff to do here. You usually have to drive to other towns. I believe the populations is somewhere around 35,000 now.

Atascadero is in the North County. It's 180 degrees different from the beach areas. Summers are blistering and winters can have some rather severe low temps for coastal CA. Yes, I lived in Atascadero. For cheap rentals near the beach, check out Pismo Beach and Grover Beach. I found the best deals in the paper directly from the owner.
