My husband and I have decided to relocate to California. He has PTSD from combat, as well as some other mental issues such as depression and insomnia. He will be using medical marijuana to help him. We have two babies under the age of 2. Looking for a place in California where the people are med marijuana friendly, with lower crime rate/ family friendly area near a va hospital. We dont drive, so groceries and things would need to be walkable or have good public transportation. Friendly to outsiders, and not too nosy. Also, price about $1000/ mo for 2 br or more. Anywhere in California, does such a place exist?

Yes, because of the rental budget and if you want to be near the coast, look into Humboldt County.
That 1K a month for a 2 bedroom will really limit you and the communities that you may be able to afford may not suit you for other reasons.
If you don't care about being near the coast and aren't attached to California for other reasons, then you may want to consider the other states that have legalized the use of medical marijuana. You might find a better quality of life and one that is less costly and a bit more "sane".
If you are in or want to be in western U.S. Montana, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, Washington all allow the use of medical marijuana and in the southwest both Arizona and New Mexico do as well.
It's just something to consider if, like i said, you're not attached to California.

I agree with your comments. It makes sense. Altho most of the cities in North of San Francisco along the coast are small all the way to WA state. Most don't have lot of job growth and a strong economy, so job search might be difficult. Cost of living is lower in Oregon and WA than in CA. Just saying.

Why California in particular? Just remember that the same reasons that make you want to move here.... have made 100s of thousands also want to move here. All that demand for living space means that any remotely desirable area has long be priced out of your range.

The reason we have been looking at CA is it seems their med mj program is the most easily accessable for my husband. Any one know if another state's med mj program would be as easy as cali's for him to access?

Maybe Bakersfield or some far out of the way no name town that no one visits.

Where do you want to move to? What city? Northern or Southern California?

WHY are you coming to California, one of the most expensive states in the union?

I have a license in California but don't have experience with any other state.
Why do you think that it will be easier in California for your husband to get a license?
Is that based on real information or is it just an assumption?

Getting a Mary Jane license in this state is about as hard as getting a library card.
