Very interesting.

And to think I had a giant miscanthus removed from my front yard when I bought this house. LOL.

Cool Planet BioFuels, Camarilla, Calif., announced that it has made a major breakthrough in converting biomass to gasoline. The Company achieved 4,000 gallons/acre biomass to gasoline conversion in pilot testing using giant miscanthus, an advanced bioenergy crop.

Gasoline has about one and a half times the energy of ethanol, so this is about twelve times more yield than current corn ethanol production levels.
The giant miscanthus was developed at the University of Mississippi and provided from a high yield plot by Repreve Renewables. Other advanced bio-energy crops, such as sorghum and switch grass, can provide similar annual yields using this new process...

Add up all of this nonsense like solar, wind, biomass and the rest of the taxpayer money-down-the-toilet programs for "green" energy and they do not fill even 1% of our energy needs. Lot of noise over nothing.

Sure. That's why CA companies attracted 5 billion dollars in green-tech venture captial last year alone

If only we could harness the cynicism of our residents.

Well let's see. 4000 gallons per acre=95 barrels of oil/acre. Seems like a whole bunch of land is going to be necessary to make even the smallest dent. Miscanthus can also only really be harvested once a year.

I'd love to see biomass fuel succeed and at least this is a crop that doesn't have a food value like corn.

Can't even read your own article. It's not $5 billion (for CA) as you say. Sure venture money will follow whenever the government is willing to subsidize an industry. Take away the taxpayer subsidies and the green industry disappears overnight.

Get back to me in about 100 years. That's at least how long its going to take to come up with something to completely replace oil.

Unless your Mayan and then anything past December doesn't count.

Thanks for catching that. Its $2.8 billion, just to CA in '11.

The oil industry isn't massively subsidized? Or is that just part of the furniture at this point?
