Simply put the Democrats, progressives, liberals (whatever you call them) don't want you to think that hard work equals success. They want you to think that success falls into the lap of lucky people sort of like winning a lottery. That way there will be no cause for complaint when they steal money away from successful people.

They also don't want you to think that hard work equals success because they hope that you won't even try for success. They want you helpless and dependent on a government program for your survival. And they want to be the ones to manage that government program. Despicable.

Only a reply to your statement about the about the old carrot trick and YES... one day you too can be rich or well to do and be worth a million dollars...

I've seen it... it still happens and no amount rhetoric can prove there are not people from modest backgrounds becoming millionaires...

Heck... there are reported up to 500 new millionaires just from Google...

No, they want you to think that achieving success depends on a number of factors many of which are outside of the control of individuals as a result rewarding individuals with these factors incomes that are dramatically higher than the average American is not fair.

Liberals in America aren't proposing a communist state, instead they are proposing progressive taxes that allow the highly successful to keep some of the "reward" from their traits but also distributes some to society as a whole. The top federal income taxes in the US were 70~90% between 1940 and 1970....and during this period the average American achieved the most.

This doesn't even make sense....why would liberals want everyone to be helpless?

Anyhow, its amusing that support for flat/regressive taxes is highest in the lower income cohorts.

^^ what these guys said.

when you break it down to "people who worker harder pay more tax" then yes, it sounds like total B.S. and certainly doesn't appear to be fair., but it's more complicated than that. And it's terrible for society and we cannot succeed down the path we're headed. We are trending toward more and more of the assets in our country being owned by a tinier and tinier percentage of the people. It's not going to end well. Better to fix it now.

Being a mega millionaire still sucks if you can't drive down your street without worrying about getting robbed because 99% of everyone else is pissed the ____ off. It affects all of us. That's what some of the super rich don't think about. They should care about the poor people. If the poor people are happy, they don't have to install 6 alarm systems in their mansion and only go to certain neighborhoods cause they're scared of 2/3 of their own damn city that they live in. that's what we're headed for.

Horse pucky!
Take a gander at this, I think your political "persuasion" wants you to think that is what liberals think........
Are Wealthy Americans Always Conservative? | Addicting Info

Lots and lots of Liberal and wealthy folks in the world... Liberal or Conservative policy, is simply about belief in a direction..

No..Hard work alone does not equal success, lots of people work hard and do not have financial "success". I would say working smarter, being educated, innovative, creative... That is what will get you wealthy.. along with some plain old luck..

Yes it is the American way the pursuit of wealth.. Not the pursuit of happiness... Which by the way wealth has nothing to do with happiness..

Meanwhile, half of America doesn't even pay federal income tax. Is that sustainable?

No.. So what is the solution? Tax them anyway, drive them to desperation and crime, so we can build bigger and more expensive prisons..
*I do not know about you, but for me I find it DEEPLY disturbing when prison expenditures exceed school expenditures.....!

OR

Raise the bar for everyone, create confidence, educate folks in areas were we need workers, pay living wages, break the concentration of wealth, then more can pay taxes and be productive members of society...

I truly believe deep down, most want to contribute want to be productive..

Indeed! Unless of course you are the elite ruling class in a 3rd world country... Then you have armored limo's and hired security...

Violence dealt with more violence... Sad.. Gee I wonder why their is little crime in Northern European countries.....Hmmmmm...

Could it be because the have a high safety net, and do not drive the lower class to desperation and crime, by taxing the wealthy fairly???????????????

Perhaps if people want "livable wages" they should acquire the skills to get jobs that pay them. Just sayin'.

What exactly is "breaking the concentration" of wealth going to achieve?

We're pretty much doing this now. So how has that worked out? Not very well to say the least. Not in California anyway. We have amongst the highest tax rates in the nation (waits for the "relative to" argument supposedly proving that it's not so high), highest unemployment rate, crumbling infrastructure, a joke of a public school system, runaway debt, but I'm supposed to believe that everything here is just fine. Amazing.

Hey, I do not disagree with the fact that we have big time problems with the status quo... Massive waste and corperate special interest groups... Yep clean em up!!!
I do question how many "livable wages" jobs we can create, since union busting, and off shore manufacturing.. (All to the benefit of the wealthy..) Flipping burgers at a fast food chain, is never going to pay a living wage... But flipping burgers as an owner of a small privatly owned resturant will....

The question is what will raise the standard of living/productivity the most for the majority of American citizens..????

Is that not what we are trying to do here? I think we as a nation need to ask ourselves the basic question.. What is the goal?
