Interesting topic...I want to move to Southern CA. Have heard all the reasons in the book not to.

Moving to CA almost seems like it's own version of the American dream. People leave states with better economy, lower cost of living, and better public schools (reasons people want to live in American generally) to live in CA.

I personally think a lot of has to do with saying you live in CA.

38 million people don't all live here just to say we live in CA.

Absolutely. That door swings both ways. But it works better when people move to a place rather than from somewhere else - a subtle difference, but telling.

In Colorado people don't like Californians because they usually are the first to brag about where they are from. I've noticed that they compare everything in Colorado to California and usually boast how CA is better in all regards except cost of living. Finally, Californians bring their political mindset with them, and in election years they get blamed for turning the state blue.

If you are liberal/progressive wouldn't that be a good thing? I'm not understanding. How can a liberal hate a liberal no matter where they are from?

I am a Californian that moved to Colorado, I was simply listing the comments I have received since moving here lol. I love California but I actually prefer Colorado right now and can understand where they are coming from with their disdain.

I know, I'm from CO and moved out here quite some time ago. Maybe things have changed but we didn't hate on CA back in the day. It was more envy and the place everyone wanted to move.

I think the new breed of Californians (which are basically transplants and not native CA) are annoying when going around the country. I'm not sure I'd call it hate...more like disdain: "to think unworthy of notice, response, etc."

A down payment here is a house most other places, so I plan to be living rent and mortgage free, anywhere but here.
There seems to be a huge dichotomy between people's experiences of California. I moved here two years ago and my experience is certainly an insulated one, probably not typical of the experience of most people, but it's been a great place to live so far. I live in Silicon Valley, work in high tech, have a good salary, live in a safe, nice town with plenty of things to do in my free time. I've lived in several different places around the U.S. over the years, and Sunnyvale is my favorite.

As I said, people who live and work in Silicon Valley probably have a quality of life that's not typical of the rest of California, so ....
