Blackshoe, you scooped me. I gotta second the nomination of Barstow and throw in Ridgecrest, Lower Lake (Lake County), and Perris. If being connected to California made a city eligible, I'd nominate Yuma, Az.

Would most agree? I think so.
Hard to believe that those people are as much as Californians as a surfer from the OC, hippys in Humboldt, artist in SF, and tanned blondes from LA.
California is truly another planet within itself.
Gotta love it!
I'd flip it around and say it's hard to believe those other types are as much as Californians as people from Butte County.

don't flip it around.

People don't move and/or vacation in California from all over the world to see Butte County.

Yes, they are Californians.

And 150 ago, Californians were Native American tribes.

And 150 year from now, perhaps, the types you described will be just a stuffed a doll in history museum (I sure hope so)

Rail Road Flat, and I stand by this. Prove there's anything more hillbilly in CA than Rail Road Flat

I feel the higher up into the Sierra, the less hillbilly it gets... but surely lots of them in 1000-3000ft elevation range

I think I reached the point where going to Truckee means "Goin' to a big town today, ma!" Need to get out more...
