Heres the story: I was currently working in a veterinary office for a little over a yr. I got into a car accident which left my back pretty badly injured. I returned to work two wks after the accident with a Dr.'s note which said I could return but on the restriction of "light duty." I worked for the next two wks in a receptionist position because the office had the position open and at the time it was the only place my boss felt I could be put. My boss repeatedly told me that they would work with me, and my condition. I only worked half days at first, then progressed into working full days. After working two full days, I returned to work on the 3rd day, expecting to work a full day again. But instead after 2 hrs I was pulled aside by my boss, whom informed me that she had hired a new receptionist and that I was going to be laid off for the next 2 wks or until further notice. I was instructed by my Dr. and by my accident lawyer to file for unemployment instead of disability because I had returned to work after my accident and it wasnt my choice to leave my job. I filed for unemployment, my boss denied the claim, reporting "I had taken a leave of personal absence." I therefore appealed it. My court date is in a lil over a week and I haven't hired an unemployment lawyer. I have my Dr.'s note and a print out of the hours I had worked after the accident. Im wondering what are the chances of me winning my case??? I need to be able to pay my bills!

How long ago did this happen, and are you still not working? The way it's written it sounds like the Vet gave you two weeks off - and if that's all it was, that wouldn't be worth pursuing. You don't get unemployment insurance for the first week anyway, and are you really willing to ruin your relationship with the Vet over one week?

But if you're still not working? And it's been longer than it sounds like above? Then it definitely sounds worth pursuing. But why would you need a lawyer? It sounds like a fairly straightforward appeal, and you have documentation. Personally I would only get a lawyer if your appeal was denied, and if your job is permanently gone.
