Hi guys,

I'm from Sacramento, CA and am looking to take my SO to some great place where there's outdoor hiking and nice scenery.

I've been looking at Mt. Shasta, but am also looking for other suggestions.

Our lives are really busy and I am not well traveled

Any suggestions would be great. Please include places to stay and any experiences you have with that place. We would probably need some sort of lodging and we don't plan on camping there, so hotel recommendations would be great also.

We're open to anywhere in California.

Thanks

Well i'm a lover of Big Sur so that's what i suggest.
Big Sur California Chamber of Commerce, Lodging, Accommodations, Camping

http://www.bigsurcalifornia.org/hiking.html

There are a number of really nice places (and some quite expensive) to stay in Big Sur.
There are also some not so expensive places and a couple in betweens.
When are you going to wherever you're going and what is your budget for lodging?

Thanks jaijai.

Yes I have looked at Big Sur also and it looks great.

We plan on going March 25,26,27 (Sunday - Tuesday) and budget is around $500. We'll have a car with us so if its too expensive I'd prefer something cheaper.

Wow....where to being......

East:
Lake Tahoe. Tons of Nature, Tons of Accommodations
Tahoe or Eldorado National Forest. Lots of smaller locals with cabins to rent.

South:
Yosemite. If peak season, you need accommodations way in advance!
Gold County.
Kings Canyon / Sequoia

West:
Point Reyes
Sonoma/Mendocino Coast...and if you have time to drive...Humboldt County. Redwoods Redwoods Redwoods!

North:
Shasta Lake and Mountain Area
Mt. Lassen
Trinity Alps

And these are just the generic first choices. I'm sure there are hundreds of other choices. Maybe narrow down your interests?

Thanks Standing. We've been to Lake Tahoe and Yosemite, so want to try something new.

Right now we're looking up North near Shasta and down South by Big Sur.

Big Sur looks like the choice right now since it's right by the coast (or anywhere near the coast). Cost might be a factor though. Looking into it now.

You can nix Post Ranch and Ventana Inn, Lucia Lodge and probably Deetjen's as well.
The first 3 are very pricey and i think Deetjen's is too but a little less so but i'm not sure.
Treebones may not be your thing ... last time i was there it was a bit of a rich hippies haven with rooms and also 16 yurts.
It's changed its name and i think the owners have changed too and i'm not sure how affordable it is.
Esalen isn't an option and there are some other places that i'm not familiar with but i'm sure are quite pricey.
The Big Sur Lodge is one place which is quite nice and comfortable and you may be able to afford it.
I can't find price listings on their web page.
The Big Sur River Inn is also a good option. It may even be a bit less expensive than the Big Sur Lodge.
Both would be good options and since it's only March and the tourist season hasn't begun, it may be doable.
There's a couple other funky little places right near Big Sur River Inn which i'm sure are less expensive.

All the best in wherever you decide to have your min-vacation.

Thanks jajai.

Looked at the prices, Big Sur Lodge = $477 and Big Sur River Inn = $230.

Not sure the Lodge is that great enough for a big price difference.

Anyone have any experience with the Mt. Shasta area??

Yikes! Pricey!

I once stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Weed.
It was less than $100 a night and it was a nice one and some of the rooms have excellent views of the mountain if i'm remembering accurately. (it was 7 years ago)
I don't know the Shasta area that well so i can't be of much help in that regard.

The Carmel River Inn has reasonable prices...
Carmel River Inn Hotel - Carmel - United States - With 145 guest reviews

We had a wonderful time staying there years ago. We were on our way to Cambria Pines.

You can drive along the coast to behold all the ocean beauty. Beautiful drive past Carmel Highlands, Bixby Bridge, to Big Sur.

Have a Fantastic Adventure.

There are some beautiful Waterfalls close to Redding.

Waterfalls Near Redding CA - Burney, McCloud, Mossbrae, Whiskeytown and more, plus Redding CA Real Estate

I don't know what the room prices are there. We traveled in our ol' motorhome.
