So what are the other 9,850,000 people who came here doing instead of paying taxes? Living on the dole? Getting paid under the table? The Franchise Tax Board is on my case in a hurry if I fail to make a tax payment on time. But they let 9,850,000 others get away free?

Makes one want to swim to Mexico come back as an illegal in order to start all over again.
I don't think that the article suggests all of these people are illegals. I'm sure more than 150,000 new residents filed taxes. Read their words carefully. They are saying that only 150,000 paid taxes. It just means that we added a bunch of low income earners to the state. Either way, that is nothing to brag about.

Ayup!

As a business owner I am frequently encouraged by others on this board to pick any one of the roads out of this state and use it. Don't let the door hit me on the way out. And of course the one most vocal about this has admitted he doesn't work for a living. That right there has become the essence of California. Disparage, impugn and punish those who actually produce while simultaneously encouraging the deadbeats. What a wonderful plan to improve the state.

So only 1.5% of CA's newcomers from 1985 to 2005 pay income taxes, and CA's legislators are complaining about a lack of tax revenue and could not foresee CA turning into a third world country? Seriously? And gee, I wonder where these people who don't pay income taxes are coming from...um...Kentucky?

You can bet money that a lot more than 1.5% are taking food stamps, Medicaid and Section 8. California invites them by making it so easy and promising them so much, all they had to do is show up.

Remittances to Mexico hit an all time high in 2011, over $2 BILLION a month, 2011 remittances shot up 7%.
