A monument to Christian hubris. I hope it collapses.

I do too, but not for the same reason. I simply find it garish.

I have so much more respect for the struggling little churches here in the barrio, such as the one that's trying to raise money to fix its Santa Ana wind-damaged roof. There certainly aren't any garish glass bricks inside that little church, inscribed with the names of people who donated money, as there are at the CC.

"Look everyone, see that brick? I donated $$$$ to this gigantic monument to two of the worst human traits, hubris and pride! Aren't I wonderful?"

"God resists the proud but He gives grace to the humble". (James 4:6).

How is it a cathedral if it's not Catholic or Episcopal?

If it's expensive they can call it anything they WANT.

The Crystal Cathedral ministry fell on hard times, and they are selling the cathedral to the Catholics to pay off their debts. The Catholics decided that purchasing this building would be cheaper than building their own.

...and decided to make this a real cathedral as well.

How does this compare with the Los Angeles Cathedral? Two excessively ostentatious church buildings in neighboring dioceses. Must be something in the water (or something else, maybe the sun?) in SoCal.

They are both hideous monstrosities and I'm simply embarrassed by them. Hopefully the next earthquake will take them down along with the one in Oakland.
