I wouldn't suggest you moving to vallejo. It's VERY VERY ghetto. Also i've lived in fairfield for about 6 years now, and this city is going down the drain.

If you move to fairfield id suggest moving to green valley or Cordelia.
Vacaville is much better and safer than fairfield.

During our research, we filtered out all the cities we can't afford, have terrible air quality, or have other glaring issues (such as really depressing looking deserts--Bakersfield for example). The ones we are now considering are:

San Diego county - We're not sure if we can find a nice/safe neighborhood for $250k in this area, otherwise, it'll be our top choice.

Sacramento - Should have houses in the safe neighborhoods we can afford, but it's quite hot, and the crime rate's terrible (meaning we have to stick to the safer neighborthoods). There's also the danger of flood (but other Cali cities have to worry about earthquake). The AC bills will be higher too during summer.

Fairfield - Although strangely humid, it's not as hot as Sacramento. We don't know anything about Fairfield other than the statistics we can find online.

We don't have kids so we're not concerned about schools or raising children. We both work at home so we are't concerned about jobs either.

We'd like to hear some opinions on these three cities and how they compare.
I have to ask - since you both work from home, and location does not matter - 250k will go a loooooot further in Oregon or Washington - You could buy a pretty nice place in the Portland area, for example - which is a great city with mild weather.

Since location in a state as large as CA doesn't matter - why is your heart set on CA?
