This part always gets me. Yep, rush 'em through the execution assembly line, weak circumstantial evidence and faulty witness testimony be damned. Hey, as long as it isn't me being executed, what do I care?

Exactly! So many people have this knee-jerk emotional reaction they throw logic out the window. The prison industry (most prisons are privately owned) has done a splendid job of selling their product to a gullible society.

In California, the average time between conviction and execution is 25 years. Somehow I think we can be a little more "swift" than that.

There have been people on death row for nearly that long only to be found innocent later. Good thing we haven't been so swift in the past.

The death penalty has always been a deterrent when implemented justly and swiftly. Modern Singapore is a case in point. But in order for there to be a deterrent effect the penalty needs to be swift and sure. Which ain't the case in California today.

The risk of innocents being punished is an argument against ALL punishment, not just the death penalty. 25 years in solitary is not an improvement in my opinion.

I'm pro-death penalty only in the face of overwhelming physical evidence in murder cases. Since that's rare, I'm willing to ban capital punishment. California has all but done that, as I'm convinced you'll never see another execution here.

Scott Peterson is a good example of the death penalty wrongly applied. Circumstantial evidence isn't enough, IMHO.

You can't say that until you're the one facing it.
