Good luck to you. I'm a native Californian (San Diego) that moved to the Chicago area 8 years ago. The first couple of years were great. It was like a honeymoon period but quickly lost its luster. I am actively looking for jobs in San Diego as we speak. The weather is beyond horrible. The winters are so cold. Yes, we were lucky to have a relatively mild winter this year but the previous winters were unbearable. The summers are very humid and filled with mosquitos. I've heard many life long Chicago residents brag about it being the best summer city in America. They are so far off. Everything the city offers can be found in California during the summer or winter minus the cold, snow, bugs and humidity. Sure the city itself is fun but that's all there is here. Nothing more, nothing less. I live in the Northwest suburbs and rarely visit the city anymore. Maybe you will enjoy it better here but I thought I'd give you my perspective as someone that has experienced it.

California had to deal with an influx of "Okies" back in the 1930s. Now other states are doing the same with "Calis"!

Have fun and good luck in Chicago! Great city and very fun, but brutal winters.

I think, however, you will miss California sooner than later.
