Just under 18% of those in Michigan are Catholic. The remainder of the 60% who are religious are other religions.

By the way, the percentage of religious in MI and the percentage of those who are Catholic are both under the national average.

I lived in Fresno for a couple years in the 90s and I remember the Fresno Bee had an article about drunk driving in the San Joaquin Valley. At the time the Hispanic population was something like 35% of the valley's population and accounted for 80% of drunk driving arrests - the majority being Mexican nationals. Someone quoted in the article theorized that there is little to no stigma attached to drunk driving in Mexico and they brought that mindset with them. If that were to hold true I could see how the problem might be worse now that the San Joaquin Valley is about half Hispanic. I noticed that Men's Health article WP linked weights drunk driving arrests pretty heavily. It also has death's by liver disease weighted highly and that's not always caused by drinking. Often the cause is Hepatitis (for both Cirrhosis and cancer). Its pretty rampant in circles that use Meth a lot - which is common in the San Joaquin Valley.

(and hardly the first or only one here taking a swipe back at Pilgrim's insinuations by noting Catholic drinking ... In fact others here have pointed out Wisconsin Catholics before me in this regard ... But as you were ...)
