I have this house in the country for rent. Fully half of the inquirers now have been medicinal marijuana growers. That is, they have supposedly been calling on behalf of medicinal marijuana growers - aging parents, an uncle, a "partner". They're very polite and up front about it: sounds like they've been coached. I had no idea there were so many of them.

Call me skeptical, but I'm guessing there must be a lot of money in this. Anyone have insight into this phenomenon?

Maybe they're fishing for a discrimination suit. Sort of like calling and saying "We're a gay couple and would like to rent from you. Is that OK?"

No, it's legal - for now - to "discriminate" against medicinal marijuana growers and users. And I do.

I give it five years before "intoxication orientation" is protected status in California.

I heard that a recent crackdown on medical marijuana shops is having a devastating effect on the
economy of Humboldt County.

Most likely they'll classify it as a necessary medicine for a medical condition like insulin to a diabetic.

No doubt.

Anyway, isn't growing pot still against federal law?

Nope. No clue. Nobody I know with a house for rent in the country has ever had this happen to them.
