Yes agreed- avoid the geeked up people and there is little consequence but the question was "why" the high crime, not "would" you likely become victim of said crime if you avoid association with criminals. Nice lake/river there. Huge, impressive dam. Less crowded than other areas of CA. The tweakers tweak the crime rate.

Drug Addicts, children running around because there parents aren't at home watching them, most of these childrens parents are tweakers.

No they're not. While it has issues, its not an open air drug mart populated by addicts and feral children. That's just a stupid and ridiculous generalization.

Oroville was the welfare capitol for the country for ages. It has always had that reputation. Shame because the surrounding hills are beautiful.
