We no longer count since we left CA three years ago but up until then, I was born in North Island Naval Hospital, San Diego and my wife was born in Vallejo. Both of us are first generation Californians compliments of Uncle Sam. Four of my five children were born in CA and two of those still live there as does the one who was born in VA. One of my wife's two daughters was born in CA but doesn't live there anymore and the one who was born in AR does. Four of my seven grandchildren were born in CA and three still live there. All three of my wife's are natives but only one remains there. Guess we're part of the "mobile" factor.

I was born in San Diego, and am fifth generation Southern California - on both sides of my family! My ancestors came over from Northern Europe, landed in the Midwest briefly, and ended up in California before the turn of the last century.

I lived at Buzzard's Roost, across the curved bridge and up the hill from Whiskey Flats, where you possibly had parties in your teen years. I greatly enjoyed my years there.

Are those places in or around Paradise, highnlite? Cute names for old towns. They sound very typical of mountain communities.

Both sets of grandparents moved to the Central Valley in the 1920's from the Midwest. My brother and I were born at what is now Glendale Hospital.

Looking at this politically .... the liberal coastal elites whose votes and influence dominate the state are mostly not from California. This is another sense in which inland Californians are disenfranchised and ruled by outsiders.

I'd like to see the demographic stats on the kinds of people moving to California from other states in the last ten years - political leanings, wealth/income, marital status, education, etc.
