How about we cancel welfare period? Or at least make people who come to California wait a year BEFORE collecting welfare and other social benefits.

Oh but Phil, you sound like Hitler...

Some "solution", typical response from the radical far left, more socialism is what we need, the same kind that has driven the state to the brink of disaster.

If too dumb/lazy to upgrade own skills, be willing to compete vs some illegal for low-skill jobs like cleaning toilets, landscaping, etc in Anaheim or LV or FL, etc etc

Seems like plenty of hungry, middle-income kids from all over US and RoW come to CA every yr to build their careers esp in tech or finance....and many of 'em quickly rise into ranks of top 1% of US in income and taxes paid, well beyond many native CA kids (and vs many kids who are on a path of downward mobility vs their parents)

Entitlement, envy, guilt, laziness, blaming others for own problems, etc are unproductive but inevitable facets of society, existing amongst chronic, multi-gen welfare crowd, middle-income and trust funders...and all ethnicities....it is what it is
So the reason there are too few jobs for all these folks looking is laziness, entitlement, envy, guilt, blaming others?

Remarkable ...

• 12.7 million people out of work ...
• about 3 million jobs available to be filled ...
• 4x fewer jobs available than people looking to fill them ...

But if those 12.7 million lazy basta*ds would just learn to weld or get other training or be willing to scrub out toilets, another 9.7 million jobs would appear out of nowhere.

It's so simple. Why didn't they think of that in Washington and Sacramento?

**Looks at L.A., San Joaquin Valley, SF Bay**

How's working out for us? Yes, shutting off the valley water over a damn minnow, makes sense to me.

Sure what? California's environmental regulations have been getting stricter since the 1970's and during the entire time the state has grown in population and created numerous jobs.

In terms of gas, it would be rather ideal if the state decided to increase the fuel tax instead of income or sales taxes.

Nope.....because there isn't any reality to it.

Why would anybody want this? You have a rather odd idea how liberals think about social programs. The purpose, to liberals, of social programs is to provide a safety net to those in need. A welfare program that isn't matriculating people into gainful employment in a reasonable amount of time is not doing its job.

Calworks & calfresh are 2 totally different programs. Calfresh is food stamps which is funded by the federal govt & handled by the county. NO one should go hungry esp kids & im sure their will be exceptions to the calworks program. Jerry brown has been wealthy all his life & he dont know what its like to struggle just to survive or go to bed hungry.

But where would they go? Not many states have as generous a welfare system as California which is why so many welfare types moved to California in the first place.

They sure are. Welfare recipients get so much food stamps, WIC, free meals in school and headstart that they will put out baby formula for the stray cats or else they sell it on craigslist for some pretty nice cash.

Ever seen what happens to a lot of that free food given in the schools? Directly into the garbage.

California has 12% of the US population, but 33% of persons receving public assistance, ie, welfare, of one kind or another.

You are right, no kids should go hungry...... Their parents should get a job and start working so they can put food on the table, or stop making kids they can't afford to feed!!!
