California's labor market outperformed the U.S. in May, reviving hopes that the recovery will strengthen as the summer tourism season kicks into high gear...The strong job gains surprised economists after a dismal federal jobs report showed the U.S. created only 69,000 total jobs last month.

California outperforms U.S., adding 33,900 jobs in May - latimes.com

Good news! I'm very close to landing a position in the Bay Area, had to turn down a couple shaky start-ups, but a few are looking on the bright side.

So, half the new jobs added in the U.S. were added in California? Hmmmm

And at Rank 3rd highest unemployment rate among the 51 states, it has a long way to go. Meanwhile, California had an abysmal job creation # as a percent of population ...
Fun w/ numbers.

Link to raw data release :
http://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/laus.pdf

Good For California and America that there is job growth ... California hardly outperformed the U.S on a percent of population basis and is still 3rd highest unemployment rate in the U.S
Overall, Seasonally adjusted from May 2011 to May 2012, Texas leads the nation in raw #'d job creation (237,100) jobs created vs california (221,500).. Meanwhile it has 3.5 million less people.

Overall, to put things into perspective, we still aren't creating enough jobs to even keep up w/ population growth. And unemployment rates drop because 100s of thousands of people are falling off of the accounted books .. A chart showing this :

No one generally takes this info seriously as its twisted 50 ways to Sunday.

Gee I wonder what kinds of jobs are tied to tourism and summer?

Sand trap massager and hole relocator
Dishwasher
Luggage porter
Airplane cleaners
A few more smiling faces at McDonalds

More smoke and mirrors from the California PR team.

Pretty much .. Click bait b.s headline by the LATimes .. It's been really having at it lately. Growth as a %'age of population is what matters if you are to say California is outperforming the U.S .. Surprise, it's not. Further, the summer jobs are in full swing.. No reflection on the quality of jobs or the seasonally adjusted nature of it.

Interesting, ytg ...
you seize negatively on every suggestion of any positively reported development for California ...
but recently you expressed dismay that I would chastise you for your constant negativity ...

I think the drag created by the collapse of the housing bubble is finally ending. I've noticed a lot of ground being broke on mutli-unit projects throughout Los Angeles over the last 6 months or so...and the residential market seems to be stabilizing though I haven't noticed much building. Commercial is still terrible though...

It’s a lot more interesting that journos won’t look at the broader picture. Those gains were not even enough to support all the graduates in California in May. Between AB32 and Cap and Trade there’s not much to do in California, but flee after graduation.

Jeebus, people, do you hear yourselves?

If you are SO desperate to wallow, put the recent CA jobs numbers in logical context: the rest of the nation had a FAR worse May that did CA. As it relates to this piece of data alone, there is much more negativity to be found elsewhere. Seek it there.

Or tighten up your argument.

Or just give it a rest.
