Assuming there is some sort of falls or rapids that resemble a haypress along the creek? I haven't fished or traversed along the creek. I have washed up by it after cleaning a deer though many moons ago.

in about the middle of the valley there is a crotched tree with a notch in it. The early settlers in Sierra City Hayed the meadow, cut the native grass, piled it on wagons and using a long lever pressed the hay down into the wagon so they could get more in, then took it down to Sierra City. The Haypress tree was still standing into the 1980's

Interesting. Sounds like a bit of unpublished history so some idiot wouldn't try to deface it or cut it down.

Likely. Interesting that the population of Sierra County in the 1850's was double that of Sierra County today.

Severe weather today in northern part. Watching the news and there was some major damage to a some homes. Who'd a thunk it? Tornadoes in California may be the new normal. Earthquakes, tornadoes and tsunamis. Yup. California has it all!

Very impressive for the first storm of the season. The Sacramento area received about an inch of rain, plus or minus about a quarter of an inch, depending on what cloud was overhead. There was also five tornado warnings between Sacramento and Oroville and a lot of wind.

It can, stevies. Depending on the location and surrounding areas. The foothills often have "black ice" on the roads. If there's been a lot of precipitation and the roads are still wet, temps drop and ice will form. Not usually on I-5 or Hwy 99 but possibly under the overpass areas. The San Joaquin valley rarely sees snow. It does happen but not for years at a time.
