Bill to ban single use plastic bags, tax paper bags in California

I already live with such a ban in Santa Monica. I always forget my bags when I shop after work, but don't really mind the 10 cent fee. I love the ban and hope it passes. How do you guys feel?

It just means I'll be buying them. Won't stop using them.

Since you ask...

I'm really against these blanket bans and plastic bags is just another case of control... like light bulbs, styrofoam, etc...

I participated along with many from my school at the first earth day...

Lots of young impressionable minds eager to save the world.

Any guess what one of the priorities of the early green movement was???

It was to save the trees by individually asking shop owners to use plastic instead of paper.

Yes... you got it... thousands of school kids in my area started a campaign to save the trees...

Anyway, my family lives conservation... and we never throw away single use bags... they are either recycled religiously or re-used/re-purposed...

Anyone remember when every bottle had a deposit that you were credited at the time you were at the checkout stand?

It was a great system that worked well... almost all bottles were taken back to the store...

Then along comes hygiene studies saying bringing used containers into supermarkets was a vector for disease and bacterial contamination...

So, only single use bottles in the interest of sanitation/hygiene...

Fast forward to today and we are again being told to use reusable bags for marketing... hope someone told the germs to stay away...

Seems the Green Movement for many is just a series of fads that are being imposed on a gullible public...

Since you asked...

Well, they came out with plastic bags because they didn't want to cut down trees for paper bags anymore.

So, now that we've progressed so much, why not replace the plastic bags with paper bags made from recycled paper?

Couldn't have said it any better myself, though I was an early supporter of the "green movement", I now find that they have gone way beyond reasonable.

Absolutely OUTRAGEOUS, Pac12Fan . . .

The "out of control" politics as well as the brain dead politicians (using that term loosely) was the primary reason I left California in the mid 90's and when I read / hear about more of these ridiculous restrictions confirms that, even after 17 years, I made the correct move.

California is a great state with even greater problems . . . the use of plastic bags is not one of them.

MY TWO CENTS WORTH.

Paper good . . . Paper bad

Plastic good . . . Plastic bad

I am waiting for the "Save the (whatever the bags are made of)" campaign before I jump on board.
