The ironic thing about the switch back to paper is, plastic was introduced because using paper was "bad for the environment" (killing trees). Paper bags are also a far inferior product - they rip when wet, handles rip off, etc. It is nice that they stand, though. They are also not useful for disposal of trash (trash can liners) and dog poop.

Context?
I, too, thought envronmentalist introduced plastic bags to save the trees.

So, I cannot help but to think that the real agenda behind this seemingly environmentally beneficial bylaw is actually someone filling their pockets with $$. As many of us is for a "greener" planet and go out of our ways to fight for it, I seriously doubt corporations and authorities have the same "ideals" in mind.
I couldn't have said it better myself (bold).

Maybe this is getting off topic, but some folks use plastic bags for crafts. I think someone out there was using them to make scatter rugs.

I didn't think Texas would go for plastic bag bans either, but then I guess Austin isn't really in Texas from what I hear.
Just as Sacramento is not in CA and Tallahassee is not in Florida

I admit that I use them as trash bags for my smaller trash cans but if they ban them it is no big deal to me. I do see your point however

See, it's possible to be a conservative and still be sensible and care about your surroundings. Honestly, if everyone everywhere (liberals and conservatives) had this kind of common sense, there wouldn't need to be laws. But because so many are blissfully stupid...

I'm tired of seeing them blowing around the streets, too. Use cloth. They're stronger.

Couldn't I re-purpose this identical argument for stricter recycling requirements and littering penalties?

In fact, if I didn't know your position beforehand, you wouldn't even have to rewrite the post.
