The article below is from the Orange County Register by syndicated columnist Victor Davis Hanson, and presents still another compelling argument for just how disfunctional our state has become. Even so, California's liberals will continue to live in their smug insulated world of self satisfaction and denial, and continue to insist that everyting is just fine, and that there is nothing to be concerned about.

... said the raisin farmer whose livelihood depends on cheap illegal-immigrant labor and government-funded water projects.

He does get bonus points for blowing several right-wing dog whistles: Solyndra, arugula, Hollywood, remittances.

Instead of blaming the coastal counties for his problems, why doesn't he start with his God-fearing Christian neighbors? People in Palo Alto aren't responsible for the fact that people in Fresno County use meth and breed irresponsibly.

Isn't that more of a non Christian behavior? Evolution suggests we are animals and many behave as such. Well OK, animals generally behave better.

Bingo. Blame those evil coastal liberals for Inland California's problems and completely ignore the fact that evil coastal income taxes prop the interior up. And as you said, Hanson is a complete hypocrite. Does California have problems? Of course, but finger pointing at the coast by a fairly wealthy Fresno county farmer isn't going to help. As for other states there's always the urban/rural contrast. Metro Philly and NYC are nothing like the poor coal mining towns in the Allegheny Mtns of those states.

Hmm....

I buy popcorn at movie theatre, popcorn is $7!!! Across the street at Safeway, popcorn is only $3!! Why? Why? Why!!!!

Conclusion: Movie Theatre is going bankrupt soon. Liberals are to blame.

I buy hamburger at Squaw Valley ski resort, hamburger is freaking $9!!!!! One mile away, hamburger is only $3!

Conclusion: Squaw Valley is going broke soon!! Liberals no like ski resort!

I am not so sure this is an appropriate comaprison. Fresno is a major city, almost half a million in the city proper and more in surrounding environs. Bakersfield, Modesto and Stockton are also large cities.

I have been in Stueben County NY, Tioga and Lycoming Counties in Pennsylvania. Poor, yes, but not dysfunctional on the order of the Central Valley. Decidedly more rural, MUCH, much less crime too. However, ultimately, a better quality of life.

There is most certainly a difference between the Boston-D.C. 'shadow' of the Appalachians versus the Central Valley of California.
