I think looking after each other when you go out with friends is a fine idea. My daughter and her friends did that, no men needed. When they had bf's those guys would sometimes bail on them when they had a little too much fun so you can't really count on things being any better just becasue a guy is in the mix. I think it's a good idea to try to get this into everyone's head however, and I tell my own son the same thing when he goes out in mixed company. Many a person has prevented someone from doing something unfortunate because they had their wits about them when nobody else did.

'It's called chivalry, what I grew up under,' the chief said. '"You treat women with respect. That's what I hope men in our community will do.'"

Amen to that, Chief Trostle. May your tribe increase! Some practical suggestions for the good men of Chico:

1. Don't allow the women in your company to get drunk. Some 80 percent of student rape victims are intoxicated at the time of the attack.

2. Don't allow the women in your company to have sex with strangers, or even to be alone with them.

3. Don't allow the women in your company to walk home alone after dark.

4. Encourage the women in your company to dress modestly.

Four extremely simple, common-sense, crime-busting acts of chivalry that will turn Chico back into the safe and bucolic oasis it was meant to be.
He should have gone a step further and told women to not let the men they know engage in reckless behavior such as driving while intoxicated, etc or engage in bar altercations with other drunk guys in bars. It is a two way street, don't you think? Look out for the people you know regardless of your sex or theirs. Men should also look out for their male friends and women for their female friends.

I thought women needed a man "like a fish needs a bicycle." I thought women could do anything a man can do at least as good or better. What happened to I am strong, I am invincible, I am woman." Who is this guy to dump this responsibility on men. So men are supposed to stay sober and watch out while all the women get drunk on their ***. ??????????????
