I thought this was a very even handed viewpoint of the crisis that is impacting California due to rapid demographic changes in the State. What do you think?

A demographic shift study is even handed but you called it a crisis?

I think(or maybe hope) that you are saying this is a crisis because of the economic gap between Hispanics and Whites creating a more polarized economy and not of the demographic shift itself.

This story is about cultures and how they shape the environment you inhabit. I should have thought that even a cursory perusal of the article would have made that apparent.

This is nothing new.

The reason for this assimilation reversal is our de facto open-borders policy, argues Michael Saragosa, a public-relations consultant who oversaw Latino outreach for Meg Whitman’s 2010 gubernatorial campaign. “We need to allow people who are already here to grow into the American Dream over generations,” he says. “That can’t happen when they have a steady flow of people behind them.” Illegal immigration, which did not drop in California during the recession, should be reduced, and legal immigration should be reoriented toward high-skilled immigrants rather than the family members of existing immigrants.

Heather MacDonald is a right winger. Take with a grain of salt as there's a serious political agenda behind it.

Exactly...although as I sit here in the Mission District....

All kidding aside. Both you and 1angry make valid points. There is serious fear mongering in that article. I mean just look at the sensationalist words used such as "revolution". On the other hand, regardless who the immigrants are, as I've said before illegal immigration cannot go unchecked in any nation. It's not good for a society and by extension, the immigrants moving into that society.

Yup. City Journal is a publication of the Manhattan Institute, which does indeed have a conservative political agenda. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but the article's focus on Latino gangbangers as opposed to the vast numbers of middle-class and non-criminal Latinos is telling.

So...has the increase in the poorly educated and ESL Hispanic population in California had a impact on California in the last ten years?

Has the large increase in Asians with their orientation towards education and hard work had an impact on Northern CA?
