Totally agree! Nice catchy title "we have a right to know what is in our food". Well, that is just so people will vote for it. This is all set up for a lawsuit bonanza. We have had the same thing with small companies not following the letter of the law for ADA (such as having the towel dispenser 1/2 inch too high) and a group of lawyers going around suing small businesses. If the enforcement was left to a state agency that started with a warning for a store owner that unknowingly had on his shelf a product that has been mislabeled, it would be fine. http://www.noprop37.com/uploads/1344...SueMeasure.pdf

Also, since this whole thing is unclear and store owners, farmers, etc do not want to be overcome with expenses trying to comply with this poorly written proposition that is full of exceptions, they will likely put a label that says 'May be Partially Produced with Genetic Engineering' on all the packages. This will negate any perceived advantages of this bill.
The rarely noticed clause in Proposition 37 - latimes.com

Vote no.. If we want notification on what foods are genetically modified, let's write a good law that will actually give us what we want.

Thought we had an federal agency called the FDA to test the food that we eat for harmful ingredients. If they thought a label was needed then we would have one. For a state that believes in big government this measure seems a little weird. Leave it to the federal level.

I will vote No. People are not going to change their buying habits because of this. My friends that I see are in support of this are the ones that already buy organic anyway.

Many of us would like to buy conventional food without GMO...... This bill is for us.

This bill is also for the conventional farmer who grows non GMO crops.... Right now our exports are at a 10 year low, because no other countries want our grain, because we have no labeling system in place....!!! Most of the world already labels the stuff, we are behind on this.

As far as we already have FDA for labeling... The companies that profit from GMO have their executives in top positions at the FDA.. Sorta the fox watching the hen house yes??

Horrific Results of New GMO Food Study Reveal Obama Has Abandoned FDA Regulation to Chemical Industry Profits, Says Occupy Monsanto - MarketWatch

Lastly remember Monsanto the main company profiting from GMO and their related chemical herbicides and pesticides, is the SAME company that told us DDT and Agent Orange were safe!!!!

They were quite wrong about that... Why not have labeling so those of us that want to eat non GMO can!!!

We have a right to know what is in our food!

They could do their own labeling if they want to export. Nothing stopping them.

OK, lets mandate that it is on all MFGs/Growers web site, in an easy to find place, for those who actually care.

????
Not a farmer hey?

Do your own labeling... LOL... crop get picked, go in a big truck to a drying facility, get mixed in with everything else.... Grains do not stay seperate...

Same with MFG web site? What the heck is that... How can you make a GMO free product if you do not know what is GMO or not...

Say you have 10 farmers 9 using non gmo, 1 using gmo... Mix them all together and you have 10 gmo farmers... This is what happens today.... Labeling is a first step..

Helllooooo... Processed foods have ingredients from all over the place, the ingredients travel in bulk form possibly from coast to coast several times for different types of processing before being combined.

A labeling and tracking system is sorely needed....

What will happen is virtually everything will have "contains GMO" Then the free market will see if non GMO sells better, if so this will cost justify the separate processing facilities for non GMO items..

It gives farmers and processors another avenue to market product to consumers... It will increase business opportunity.

Good for consumers and good for farmers and processors bottom lines..

Yep, the only way to do it will require the public demanding it OR the growers who do non GMO "ingredients" working ONLY with companies who want to make such or forming a group to market to such or export to such. That would be hard I agree.

TrueTimbers, I will rethink my vote. What about the NO for 37 campaign main point about how dog food is required to label but meat for human consumption is not..?
