A slightly different picture is painted if we look at per pupil spending verses overall spending...

Spending per secondary school student statistics - Countries compared - NationMaster

Yes the US still spends quite a bit and does not get much in return, but the picture is not so black and white...

While I agree throwing more money at a problem is not always a solution, we need to tread lightly and work unified as people to make improvements..

Now that is loony...

We are behind and falling further back... IMO we need to invest in the future, if that means spending more and having one less cell phone, car or what ever luxury item then do it...

I believe this too. There are very often ulterior motives for supporting one side of an issue or another. Just like a lot "pro-lifers" are really just deep down old school mysoginists . . . otherwise they would also be against the death penalty.

Many of those against prop 30, I can imagine are the homeschooler type.

Also many of those opposed have read the prop and it does not guarantee the money will be spent in the classroom or prevent spending cuts based on additional revenues raised.

I see that your state has a brain. Would love to hear how delusional Akin was in his explanation of getting blown out of the water by McCaskill.

Actually, it was a friend in California who gave me the heads up last night that Akin was toast. I was quite pleased that as generally conservative this state is, a majority of its citizens voted common sense rather than pure party. If Akin has a brain, it's well-hidden!

I am one of those very strong, almost radical Republicans (not really that bad) and I was glad he got clobbered even if his opponent is a jerk as well...BTW, I haven't seen the final tabulations but I don't think he got blown out of the water, even though he did get beat. I might be wrong, I am basing this on the results last night about 9pm.

Yup, the stupidity just astounds me.

Take it with a grain of salt but Huffington Post has him at 39.2% with 99% in now.

Good post that briefly sums up the California electorate. Another very disturbing result is the rejection of Prop 32. The real winners, with Props 30 and 32 going the wrong way, are the communist unions and their bosses and most of the rank and file memebers. The losers are the children, who will never benefit one bit, and the citizens.
