"The Fresno Bee (Tulare County murder suspect stabs his attorney as jury arrives - Updates - fresnobee.com ) reports that 29-year-old Rafael Mendoza attacked his attorney with a makeshift weapon as the jury entered the courtroom Monday during his trial in Tulare County Superior Court.
Sheriff's officials say Mendoza now faces charges of attempted murder for stabbing public defender John Shepard.
Mendoza was standing trial for killing 25-year-old Julian Bravo, whose body was found in a Tulare home in May 2010.
After the attack, officers detained Mendoza and provided first aid to the attorney. The judge declared a mistrial.
Last Wednesday, a former officer on trial for child molestation attacked a detective as guilty verdicts were being read against him.

I visited Visalia many times, and even lived there for awhile back in the early 90's and always thought it was a great town. Obviously not immune to crime but this shows how much things have changed since I was there - this type of crime never occurred back then.
On a brighter note, I see The Vintage Press is still going strong there, always worth stopping for a bite!

What's this have to do with Visalia other than that's where the Tulare County Superior Court is located? His original crime was committed in the city of Tulare. If the court was there, he would have attacked his public defender there.
