Take a look at this map, the green is public land available for your recreation. Compare this to your preferred state, compare this to any other state, compare this to Texas for example. recreational area map

Nearly 50% of California is public recreational land available in California for the recreationist. One could scarcely live somewhere else and have much chance of seeing and walking upon more than a minute amount.

You could compare this favorably with all other states aside from NV and AK. For instance, the great state of North Dakota has a pathetic 4.95% of its area available to the recreationist.

California also has some of the strictest use laws. What's the use in having public land if the public isn't allowed on it? The last three administrations have locked up nearly 23 million acres in the western states. I won't start on what the NFS is doing to thwart public use of public lands under the management act.

Take a look at this map, and you will find that California is not the only place with a lot of federal land. And no, it is not all open for recreation use as the thread starter seems to think.

Of course it isn't the only place, but, as I pointed out, it ranks third behind AK and NV, and far more acreage than Montana, MOD CUT. And it is all available for recreation, as I pointed out also. If you think different, show me where I am wrong, don't just make statements that hang in the air without substantiation.

You are just fussing because you bailed out of this state where nearly 50 percent of the land area is reserved for the public

I could count the number of people on my fingers and toes who have the time, technical expertise, endurance, skill and desire to explore the amount of area you're talking about.

Do you mean to tell me, that if I lived in Arizona, Idaho, Vermont, Washington, etc, that I could not enjoy the wilderness, at length, for as long as I desired?

It depends what one deems "recreation" and if that "recreation" is considered politically incorrect to our Socialist masters. If you're all you do is stroll through nature Gov. Moonbeam likely doesn't care. If you're an off-roader or hunter or rock hound, you're always facing Eco-fundamentalists trying to hinder what you do.
