I was shocked to hear of his passing, but we are not always guaranteed to live to 70 or 80. Thanks to Huell Howser for showing places in California I'll never be able to go to. RIP

I live in california and plan to retire in my mid-fifties. Highly inspired by Huell Houser and his show california gold. On the agenda are visiting the many locations that were showcased on this show. Sun, scenery, good food and wine. Thank You Huell Howser for being my guide!

Yeah...I would have to think so.
Howser retired in Nov 2012 and donated all of his California Gold archive to Chapman University in Orange County. He also donated his house in 29 Palms to Chapman in Apr 2012. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/0...n_2436057.html

Sounds like he was getting his affairs in order.

I will miss Huell Howser, his shows were always interesting and informative at the grass roots level. I just saw a rerun last night and thought he is the only guy who can make a show on a neighborhood donut shop entertaining.

He will be missed.

What? Someone has something negative to say about the honorary chairman of the 15th annual desert AIDS walk?

You really need to let it go.

Default His shows live on

He donated his life's work to Chapman University. Access this website to watch his shows, which, of course, are commercial-free:

Great, great stuff!

Never heard of him. Does that count as negative?

Thank you sooooo much for this link. I've always been bummed that I couldn't afford to buy any of his shows from California's Gold or Visiting or his other shows - each episode was pretty expensive. I was happy that some episodes had been uploaded to YouTube, and actually came here to post my favorite, which is the Yosemite Firefall episode - you can now watch it on the site you posted: Firefall- California's Gold (706) - Huell Howser Archives at Chapman University I'm so glad he donated these episodes, what a great thing to do for all his fans.

I just did a search and they have my other favorite about the Underground Gardens of Baldasare Forestiere, a place I always wanted to visit but never got a chance to: Under California- California's Gold (509) - Huell Howser Archives at Chapman University

I loved Huell Howser and met him in 1998 at Mission San Juan Capistrano - he was just the same in person as on his shows. I watched him faithfully, and visited many places in California that I would not have known about if not for him. I really missed his show when I moved to New Hampshire. Huell was one of a kind, he brought joy to many and will be missed.
