Four hours is under optimum conditions. If the trip is the usual Friday afternoon up and Sunday night back it will be much longer than that.To make it in four hours would require leaving at 4-5 am and returning very late on a weeknight, with no stops for gas, food,or restrooms.

If you leave pretty much anytime on a Friday, and return basically anytime on a Sunday, expect 8+ hours at least. Just got back from Vegas on Sunday night. We decided to fly this time so we didn't have to factor in 16+ hours to our weekend. If you can afford it, just fly, it's wonderful! I've made the trip on a Fri/Sun once, will never do it again.

These people are trying to scare you..! I live in the high desert, right off the 15. It snowed once in the last two years, and it doesn't stay on the ground very long when it does snow. For you to encounter snow, you would have to have the worst luck in the world.
As far at eight hours of traffic, that would only happen in the extreme cases, perhaps at the end of a long holiday weekend when all of LA is returning to town. I frequently go down the hill on Sunday afternoons, and the traffic will slow a little, but unless there is an accident, it's no big thing.
What you are hearing here are the worst case scenarios, not the norm.. ..and as mentioned, plan your trip around those busy times of the week like Friday and Sunday evenings, and it will be a breeze.

Donn,
Are you kidding? The traffic between Vegas & LA on Fri/Sun is nothing to joke about.....if someone doesn't want to take this advice they are more than welcome to try for themselves...bet that will be the last time.

Living in the Victorville area eliminates the worst part of the trip. The hard part is just getting out of the greater LA area and through Cajon Pass on Friday night for those that live there.Cajon can be a major obstacle going or coming back any time of year, any day of the week, any time of the day or night.Cajon Pass is extremely dangerous, and any major crash will completely shut it down.I-15 is one of the most dangerous highways in the nation according to stats. Not trying to be alarmist, but as one who has driven this route for decades, just being realistic. It also can and does snow, and the CHP will close Cajon when conditions warrent it.As mentioned, the vast majority of trips LA to LV and back again will be uneventful. If possible, avoid the peak weekend travel times. There are a couple of alternate routes to LV if you should get advance warning of a snow closure or a sigalert on I-15.

Just wondering when the best time to go from Vegas to LA would be if I'm staying from Tuesday to Monday?

Midnight to Midnight. You did say the best time, not the most convenient.
