I recently bought an '06 Liberty Diesel with 41000 miles up in Denver.
I'm currently living in New Mexico for work right now, but am rather unsure of where I currently want to permanently live.
That said, I was wanting to register this thing at my stepdads place in the Victorville area until I finally figure out what to do.
I'm not sure of how many people own this type of vehicle, but I'm aware of Diesel '97 and newer having to be smogged.
Seeing as I bought this particular one out of state, how difficult will it be to get it done on this particular type so I could get the plates and such?

I'm pretty much holding off on getting license changes as well until I figure my plan out.

Check out this info from the CA DMV - it appears your vehicle would not require a smog sertificate:
Smog Information
Also, you can call them to verify as well. Be certain you discuss when you purchased your vehicle as they may try to nail you for "use tax" (same rate as sales tax) if purchased less than a year ago.
I strongly urge you to call the DMV or if possible have someone here (like your stepdad) go in person and discuss so you don't end up paying more than required.

I think all they are still doing is taking sample data during your smog check. You should be fine. I've never been turned down or even given any paperwork on it.

Diesels 1997 & older are smog exempt. 2006 is not.

Where are YOU currently residing (legally) - aka licensed?

Where is the vehicle currently registered and titled?

Diesel Smog Check. Diesel Smog Test. New Diesel Smog Check Requirement - www.SmogTips.com. Do diesel cars need smog tests? Smog testing diesel cars and trucks.

The diesel smog test will not include the emissions test portion of the regular inspection. There will be no tailpipe emissions inspection or smog test. Dynamometer testing will not be part of the diesel smog check inspection.
Your vehicle will not be driven on the dynamometer during the diesel smog check. Instead the diesel smog test will focus on a visual inspection of your vehicle's emissions/smog components, a system check of the On Board Diagnostics (OBD II) system, a visual smoke check for excessive black (carbon) smoke, and an EVAP functional test. Diesel cars and trucks which fail the diesel smog test will have to get their vehicles repaired at a diesel vehicle repair shop before retesting.

Guys .... lets not lead this guy down the wrong path. This completely depends on if he is a CA resident currently or not, and if the vehicle is registered to him in another state, and he is a resident of that (other) state.

We're jumping ahead of ourselves worrying about ARB/Smog.

Thanks for all the replies people.
I still have a CA Commercial CDL and an address at my stepdads place in Victorville.
As I said, I have been working and residing in New Mexico since July of the past year and just haven't decided on whether to switch my license over or not yet(Clovis NM is basically the Bakersfield of this state).
I called ahead to the DMV and they gave me a quote of $800 or so dollars and that yes, it's 2006 and needs the smog done.
So far, apart from some self-mods that consisted of merely unplugging things, this vehicle should pass the testing listed by the user above once they're all plugged back in.

In the meantime, this vehicle still has temporary CO registration until the finance company and dealership get all the title-related paperwork completed and such.

A 2006 vehicle should pass with flying colors. Good-luck.
