LA is vast, and much of the light rail infrastructure was built in the past decade or so -- Metro does a surprisingly great job of getting around the LA region (with a few notable gaps).

From those who have gone to the U, it is said that public transit to the beach cities takes forever, if it ever gets there, and nothing gets one anywhere after hours.
