I live in Los Angeles and my husband and I really want to find some land and build a second home for getaways. We've searched in Oakhurst, Mariposa and most recently Palm Springs but haven't found the right spot yet. We're bouncing back and forth between Mountain and Desert, leaning towards mountain.

We'd like to find at least 10 acres, off the grid is OK, under $100,000, preferably within 4-5 hour drive.

Ideally...it would be located near a small town.

Anyone know of any hidden spots we should check out?

How about Leona Valley, Tehachapi, Crystalaire, Green Valley, Lake Hughes, or Lake Elizabeth.
