Some may view this as good news, some as bad news, but anyhow here is the story:

California's long run as a boom state will sputter to an end as population growth rates consistently fall below 1 percent a year in the coming decades, according to state Department of Finance projections released Thursday... For the last several years, more residents have left California for other states than arrived from them, birth rates have declined and foreign immigration has slowed.

Like I said about the credit rating upgrade: it's a start, and it's in the right direction.

Indeed. Always a bit wistful for the population density and lack of McMansion subdivisions of the 70s.

Now if the State will adjust its spending due to lessened income from fewer tax payers, it will be a good thing.

California has a habit of raising taxes, not adjusting spending. Remember, California has the highest poverty rate 23.5% in the nation and growing. This tendency to increase taxes, is the reason high income people are being driven from California. Example Tiger Woods, who left California years ago to move to Florida to save on paying taxes. He is estimated to save $100,000,000 in taxes due to this move over his earning life time. Phil Mickelson the #2 golfer, has said he is also making the move as it will save him $7,500,000 per year in taxes. The money leaves the state, the poor keep flooding in, and those that are working and left will have to pick up the tax loss from the big ones leaving the state.

Where do you get fewer tax payers? It say slower growth not negative growth.

Funny thing about poverty in nice places ... it generally isn't so bad to endure as being rich in MOD CUT

Now, here in Hawaii there are a bunch of really wealthy folks that keep the state statistical averages from being too damn dismal. But reality is that there are a whole MOD CUT of really really seriously poor people just barely getting by ... but like I said: funny -- so many smiles ... all the time ...

Aloha
