Cost of living, is the major thing between California and Texas. At a lower salary a person actually earns more in Texas.

Compare the difference in living costs between their two big tech centers, Silicon Valley and Austin Tx.

Yes, OT. We understand that CA is more expensive than TX generally.

Shall we institute price controls? I thought Nixon proved those don't work....

What you seemed to have missed is that even with CA's so called super green mantra you guys have still have worse air quality across the board than TX.

Even with Perry's so call disregard for the environment TX is not as polluted as CA.

BTW no matter how much Perry disregards the environment... TX must comply with all federal emissions and air quality regulations. US State Air Regulations | ERA Environmental

And a few bad apples don't set the standard for the entire state of TX either.

Again CA ranks almost hand in hand with TX when you research that sight claiming TX has the worst healthcare.

Where did I say that it did? I said the Texas School Board is an embarrassment and should be overhauled. I said intelligent design/creationism should be wiped off of the face of this earth.

However evolution is taught in TX K-12 grades in TX. PolitiFact Texas | Gov. Rick Perry says Texas public schools teach evolution and creationism Please keep in mind that when Perry says it is so....does not mean that it is so

You guys need to stop spreading misinformation...get informed before you post nonsense. There was a lot of unrest about this topic with the Texas School Board. The scientists stood their ground!

Actually Creationism is NOT being taught in any Texas school. It is Unconstitutional and is not included in the Texas curriculum standards. Perry and religious conservatives losts that battle.
"Chuck Hempstead, executive director of the Science Teachers Association of Texas, said the Texas curriculum standards "require the teaching of evolution. Creationism is not science and is not addressed in Texas public schools."

No Gov. Perry, schools can’t teach religion as science, even in Texas - - The Washington Post

Your 48 years in CA says that you have your head in the sand and are delusional about your state and very misinformed about TX.

All I did was ask you to explain yourself, lol.

You seem to be reading my posts if you knew he was responding to me anyway.

Sorry I have to do English to English translation for you sometimes.

Texas starts a new legislative session this year with an 8.8 Billion surplus due to the technological innovations fueling oil and gas production in Texas as well a boom in sales tax as well as taxes from oil and gas production utilizing the technological innovations.

Too bad CA can't come up with innovation that would net CA an 8 Billion dollar surplus instead of raising taxes as the solution.
Maybe ask Rick to move to CA and run for Governor, as a Democrat/Socialist?

The population density is much higher if you get rid of some of the other cities and only count LA city. The same for New York if you don't include all 5 Burroughs, and the other metro area. Example Manhattan Island which a lot of out of staters think of when you say New York is 66,940 people per square mile.

You are not seeing the region and forgot that there is an LA county, and an LA city. This is why the study does not jibe with your figures. Also New York Metro Area was used, not the density of just New York City.

This type of study is always done using the metro areas, not just part of of the area. Most people that know anything about these studies, know this especially when the study says it is for the region, but apparently you two did not. I was a very long time commercial real estate broker, and am used to how they do this, and I thought everyone did, but apparently I was wrong about this. Sorry about that.

And no I do not misconstrue facts and distort them. I very much make sure of my facts. And I am not a California hater. I was third generation with all my ancestors on both sides of my family there from the 1800s and loved California. What I hate is what is happening to the state, and how so many refuse to open their eyes ad see what is happening. I have a lot of family in California from Far Northern to Far South, and want to see the state solve it's problems and make it a better place for them to live. I hate seeing family members driven out of the state due to lack of opportunity.,

Example my daughter was driven out 7 years ago. She makes here in Montana the same type of money she would get in her old home town of Cupertino where she was raised. She makes over $125,000 here, and she would have to make over $320,000 there (she gets a couple offers to go back to the Silicon Valley every month), to have the same standard of living. Here her executive home on 5 acres is Free and Clear of Loans there it would have about $1,250,000 loan or more on it if you could even find such a place in the Silicon Valley.

All 5 of my children have left the state, for better opportunities. I have nieces and nephews raised in the Silicon Valley, that have left with good educations because they were simply priced out due to the high cost of living and taxes.

The Weekend Interview with Joel Kotkin: The Great California Exodus - WSJ.com
The figure I gave of 8092 WAS for the city of Los Angeles. The population density of Los Angeles County is considerably lower: 2420 people per square mile.

There's just no way that any comparison of the population density of L.A. with New York could be made with the result that the former is surpassing the latter.

Plenty of people leaving Calif. every week to find better jobs, lower cost of living, safe streets, lower taxes. Perry just trying to let them know, Texas will welcome them with open arms. Probably working. I saw two cars today with California plates: in Lubbock. One thing we know. They're probably not here on vacation
