a)Hillside architectural or crumbling old Spanish Revival with a killer view in the Hollywood Hills/above Sunset Strip/Los Feliz/Silverlake
or
b)Gorgeous 2-story Craftsman or penthouse in the Castle Green in Pasadena
and
c)an oceanfront beach house on PCH in Southern Malibu for weekends.

I may have already found a, it's a fixer with views all the way to the ocean.

Default I'd live in maui since real estate prices seem similar, but since the ? asked where in ca...

I'd live in monterey, lake tahoe or san francisco...but already left to a place not quite like the bay area (left to houston and love it).

Santa barbara on the Mesa facing the ocean or APS. On second thoughts Summerland/Montecito might not be that bad of an option.
