Thank you so much for the feedback! I've spent the past couple of days looking up what I can on the suggested towns. The size is not as huge a factor for me as the relative safety and the access to good schools and outdoor play areas.

I'm really liking Torrance, Ventura, and San Clemente. El Segundo and Walnut also look decent.

La Crescenta-Montrose is a great area. Low crime and good schools. Tucked away in the foothills. Can get hot in the summer, though.

I still like Poway and surrounds. Extremely nice weather, beaches are close and housing is affordable. Also, close to San Diego with jobs fairly plentiful by California standards. Give it a cruise by!

not sure where you are moving from but hopefully you are aware that property is very expensive in so cal, especially for coastal areas. What you would expect for $650 in most places would be an outrageously gorgeous mini-mansion. In coastal so cal, you get a nice tract home.

Seal Beach is a great choice as then you get the best of both worlds (LA and OC). Plus it is a bit off the beathen path so not quite as congested as other places. Great vibe too with Belmont Shores, Naples, Seal Beach Main Street...
