0.00000001%? Eh, ban them anyway. I'm sure backyard grills will be on the target list next, followed by a 200% tax on beef and dairy because of cow farts.

Ok now, you complained. What will you do to stop the action? It is easy to complain, but, if an action is not right, citizens need to act.

I see this all the time, people complain, but that is all they do. Yet, citizens have the power.

Let it start with you.

Wut!? I have mobilized the bbq militia and we shall meet them on the beaches and drive them into the cold water of the Pacific. Then enjoy our tri-tip.

I am stocking up on s'mores supplies as we speak. Got an underground bunker full of sweet gooey goodness makings.

From the article, it looks like the Coastal Commission is on the right side, you let this go and the BBQ will be next!

Last week, the commission's staff recommended keeping the rings, saying that removing them would be inconsistent with the Coastal Act because the act requires preservation of low-cost recreational facilities.

No. It's all in how it's phrased. Action typically involves, well, a method to a solution, not just stating something you're not happy about. If that were the case, all the kindergartners on the playground would be activists. lol

Nonetheless, I do appreciate the sharing of the article. Hopefully this won't come to be and we can all enjoy our smores in peace.

Fire pits on the beach should be banned for the same reason smoking cigarettes on the beach is banned.

People have the right to breathe clean air.....they should not be subjected to breathing dangerous wood smoke.

Quote:
Everybody knows that when you burn wood you create smoke. While most people would agree that it is an irritating inconvenience they question whether wood smoke is really "that dangerous". While the composition of wood smoke can vary depending on the type of wood being burned, generally speaking it will contain more than 100 different chemical compounds. Among these compounds you will find a large number of toxins and carcinogens including carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, dioxin and arsenic. The health hazards caused by cigarette smoking and second hand smoke have been broadcast for years and many public areas are now designated as smoke free to protect the health of the public. A fact that may surprise you is that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has estimated that wood smoke is 12 times more carcinogenic than cigarette smoke and can attack the lungs and cells of the body up to 40 times longer. To simplify this in an example, a single fireplace that burns 10 pounds of wood during a single hour (which is a reasonable burn time) will produce 4,300 times more airborne carcinogens than 30 cigarettes.

The greatest health threat wood fires produce is the fine particulate matter in the smoke. Wood burning produces tiny particles of matter to which the chemicals and toxins attach. This dangerously small particulate matter is able to penetrate deep into the lungs where it is nearly impossible to cough up and toxins and carcinogens are able to pass directly into the blood stream. Once in the blood stream these toxins and carcinogens begin to attack the cells and organs.

People who would actually go against the aesthetics, tradition and simple pleasure of fire rings shoud be staked to the leeward side of them followed by banishment from all beach areas and communitiues.

How's life in those protective bubbles anyway? I think I like it better here where we can and do actually burn leaves.

Leaf burning! That is down right obnoxious...

Compost those babies, for the garden.

----------------------------------------------

I believe the "right to low cost recreation" is the angle to follow.....

I am poor, and heat 100% with wood, the environmentally friendly non fossil fuel heat source....

Watch out folks, bet somebody, figures the tax payers should pay for fake fire logs and gas lines installed at all fire pits on the beaches.... Whats that going to cost, just a couple million.. Plus state workers with great pension plans and super high salaries to maintain these new fake fire log pits....

Great idea hey? This way we can burn more fossil fuel, while letting the wood lay and rot releasing its C02 anyway.
