The Hillbillies take care of themselves.

Now as to what is happening today, ... it is cold. Stupid weather; no rain or snow or even much wind, just cold.

Some of em work for the Feds on the TVA. And some of 'em sit around waiting on government checks and their psych meds while collecting moss for supplemental cash.

Ah, well when I said "staunch conservatives" I didn't necessarily mean Birchers (though I'm sure there are those represented). Moreso just typically fiscally/economically conservative types, who are likely to vote Republican for that reason.

We have a lot of moderate fiscals trending to socially liberal that are about as well. There's all types here really.

The Central Valley will be what it's always been:

A combination of farmland and a repository for waste of all types including pollution generating business, sweage treatment, low income housing (and all *THAT* entails), and the like. It will also continue to have its resources plundered.

Every society and even every segment of society has its designated winners and losers. And in California, the Valley will be the designated losers so that the "better" people in LA, SF, Sac, and SD can have better lives by way of all the niceties including water, sewage treatment, grown food, warehousing and trucking, without actually having to endure the side effects of those amenities.

As in not electing homophobic hypocrites to office? Hopefully.
