Yet another government employee feasting at the public trough. Still think taxes aren't high enough?

Alameda County supervisors have really taken to heart the adage that government should run like a business — rewarding County Administrator Susan Muranishi with the Wall Street-like wage of $423,664 a year. For the rest of her life.

Sounds like an outlier to me. Retirements like hers are extremely rare (and ridiculous, to be completely honest), and the majority of public employees don't get anything nearly that generous.

True enough. But it's something to shout about and rant right? Perfect for this forum's personality.

Maybe before Mr.Brown will ask for more money this year and in future, he should put a cap on all public pensions, like $60K.

I don't think a cap is completely fair (lawyers, doctors, engineers, etc all start at salaries higher than $60k) but they should at least work up a formula for weighting it by salary earned throughout one's entire public service career. If you were banking your retirement on your 401k, you couldn't rely on safe withdrawal rate based on your final three year's salary (the three year average, by the way, is an *improvement* over what it was quite recently), simply because you'd gotten a bump at the end. In fact, assuming positive ROI of all your investments, it would be more heavily weighted to what you made at the beginning, which had the most time to compound. The inner workings of pension funds are different, of course, but the contributions are similar for most people: a fixed amount throughout your career, matched by your employer.

And this is an outlier. By the way, certain jobs like lead administrator, city manager, etc, are extremely difficult and I don't begrudge cities, if they feel it's in their interest, to offer high salaries to these folks. But passing off the financial responsibility to a future generation of taxpayers via inflated pensions is immoral, IMO.

The citizens should revolt for this outrage. The Alameda County Taxes is one of the main reasons why I'm being pushed to sell my home. Home values went down and my home is underwater, but yet my county taxes went up! Now I know where my tax dollars are going! This story and I'm sure there is much more dirt to be dug up about the Alemeda County Finances need to be investigated and fixed. Taxes are destroying the middle class just to make these upper class government "servants" wealthier!

You don't think this is worth getting a bit pissed about? While unusual, every other week a story like this comes about 200k+ payouts for e.g., un-taken vacation pay, overtime, and pensions
