Yeah because burning coal so some 1% yuppie can plug in his or her Tesla 300 miles away is a lot better right?

Funny. How much of Californias electrical energy is from sources other than coal? Coal is only 1.6% of instate generation. 8.2% of overall use. We are reducing coal usage in electricity generation.Total Electricity System Power

The key word is “instate” Fossil fuels still comprise over 43% of California’s energy needs. I would not expect said yuppie to think any further than his or her own zip code.

Yeah, we are discussing California here aren't we? That's statewide statistics for coal generation. Strange expectations. Buying a Tesla represents thinking beyond a zip code. The Tesla will reduce fossil fuel usage, as we reduce coal usage. Good deal overall, no?
Just noticed that according to the IES, an industry marketing group, nationwide 82% of energy needs come from fossil fuels. We seem to be half the national figure here in CA. Sounds pretty good to me.
Institute for Energy Research | Fossil Fuels
May I have a source for your figures please? I suspect California leads the way in that category.

And we pay twice as much for electricity. Coincidence?

Electricity in NorCal and the PNW comes from hydro. It's SoCal and Vegas that depend on coal from the Hopi and Navajo rez's. I don't know how ppl there can live with themselves. And the recharge stations are powered by solar, so....what was your point?

In the source I gave about Calfornia's use of electricity please note that a Coal burning plant near Bakersfield recently converted to biomass fuel for burning. Much cleaner than coal. This is important as birth defects have been linked to the smog in the central valley.http://www.airquality.utah.edu/2013/...cts/Discussing the costs of electricity in CA is for another thread, but I am glad that we are reducing fossil fuel usage here in CA as that helps clean up the air. The Tesla helps accomplish that goal if people buy them.

Almost twice. Residential electricity prices, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA):
Rank 1, Idaho cents per kWh 8.0
Rank 43, California cents per kWh 15.2
